For sure this time Erik did it his way, using his engineering and technological prowess. EBR’s first production
motorcycle, the 1190RS, is a brilliant machine – no caveats or qualifications required. Gorgeous, fine-handling and
remarkably fast, it is everything wanted in an American superbike to be. The superlight machine feels preternaturally
fast, accelerating with an urgency that surpasses even BMW’s overdog S1000RR. Engines are from BRP Powertrain
GmbH, Austria (commonly known as Rotax). Erik Buell is especially proud of the 1190RS’s styling. “I knew it would look great if I did what I wanted, “The individual parts are the best money can buy, but the holistically designed machine is even better than the sum of its parts. Exceptional mass centralization, revised chassis geometry and radically reduced unsprung weight, let the bike handle unlike any other motorcycle. Two models are offered initially; one with fiberglass and a carbon fiber bodywork edition, saving 5 lbs. Higher volume and lower cost models will follow. Erik says, “this is exactly what I wanted to build!”

Opening Address:
The night’s opening address will be delivered by Gerhard Maier – President of Control Systems, Inc. (CSI). Since 2000, CSI has provided electronic control solutions and engine development services to O.E.M. customers. This includes electronic governing, ignition and air/fuel ratio controls for gasoline, gaseous fuels, and diesel engines.
Applications using CSI electronics range from single cylinder utility engines to V-8 marine power plants. They have developed customer specific controllers for generator sets, golf carts, lawn snowmobiles, lift trucks, welders, on-road equipment, unmanned military aircraft, etc.
CSI also offers engine development, emissions and durability testing services for <19kW engines. This includes g/hp-hr emissions testing via CVS tunnel, as well as EPA/CARB cycle durability testing. Mr. Maier is a graduate of Universität Stuttgart.

At the meeting you will have a chance to tour the museum and view the history and engine evolution of Briggs & Stratton from 1900’s to present. Assembled consumer products will also be on display.
Presentations will be given on the development of the new OHV lawnmower engine models for 2011, the new single cylinder Vanguard engine models that have just gone into production, the new professional series V-Twin engines with Electronic Fuel Management and cyclonic air cleaners that have just gone into production and a brief presentation on the Engine Application Center. You will also learn about the Engine Applications Center and how it interfaces with their customers, with a brief summary of the equipment and testing done at Briggs & Stratton.

Speakers:
Mike Plutte product manager for small engines, is the interface between the customers, sales, and engineering to ensure that the engines meet customer needs. Mike will describe profession series vertical shaft engine, used in lawn mowers and pressure washers. This engine provides state of the art for high performance and low cost.
Bob Pomeroy product manager for large engines, will present the new V-twin which replaces old side valve opposed twin engines. This engine exhibits new features based on customer needs to make it more durable.
Dan Roche is the marketing manager for consumer product engines, he provides the interface between engineering and the product manager. He will describe the horizontal shaft vanguard engines and transport guard system (demonstration given).

TECHNICAL PRESENTATIONS
P&H Mining Equipment is a leading supplier of equipment and service support to the global mining industry. Based in West Milwaukee, P&H designs, manufactures and supports a product line that includes electric mining shovels, blast hole drills, walking draglines, and soon, in-pit crushing-conveying systems for surface mining operations.

P&H products are applied in nine out of ten major mining operations worldwide for the production of minerals and energy sources that include copper, coal, iron ore, petroleum (oil sand), gold, phosphates and diamonds.
West Milwaukee serves as the home base of operations for P&H Mining Equipment, which employs 3,200 people worldwide, including 1,000 in the Milwaukee area. A broad range of service support for mining operations that invest in P&H equipment is provided by a global network of P&H MinePro Services employees.
P&H recently observed its 125th anniversary, having been founded on December 1, 1884 by industrial artisans Alonzo Pawling and Henry Harnischfeger who operated a small machine and pattern shop in the “Walker’s Point” neighborhood on the South Side of Milwaukee. Their business began as a supplier of components and service support for large industrial firms in Old Milwaukee before Pawling and Harnischfeger began to design and build their own line of overhead bridge cranes in 1887.
A “bank panic” in 1893 caused Pawling & Harnischfeger to expand upon their industrial cranes line, and by the Roaring 20s, there emerged the first of a long line of best-in-class excavating equipment bearing the “P&H” trademark.
P&H is well positioned to serve the mining industry today and well into the future as our global economy transitions from meeting the needs of 6.8 billion minerals and energy consumers today to an estimated 8.5 billion consumers 30 years from now.
Biographies:
Dave Cisler manages P&H AC and DC drives and controls development in his role as Manager, Systems Engineering for P&H Mining Equipment. He applies over three decades of industrial equipment drives and controls engineering experience in that role. Dave earned his BSEE degree from Marquette.
Joe Colwell serves as Manager of Mechanical Systems engineering within the Product Engineering operations of P&H Mining Equipment. He applies nearly 20 years of mechanical systems engineering experience to the continuing evolution of industryleading P&H excavators. Joe earned his BSME from Marquette University in 1991 and his MSME from Marquette in 2000.

P&H Tour Safety Requirements:
We want to make sure that you have an enjoyable and safe visit. As a result, we need you to follow several safety requirements while you are on our property:
1. Safety glasses with side shields must be worn at all times (even outside) P&H will provide.
2. No open toed or open backed shoes are allowed in the factory.
3. No photos allowed (Please leave your camera phone in the car, just to be safe).
4. This will be a walking tour.
5. You must stay within the marked aisles (only those with steel toed shoes can cross the yellow lines).
6. Ear plugs are required in the Heat Treat, Plate Processing and Large Weld buildings. P&H will provide. Signs are on the doors and your tour guide will remind you to put your ear plugs in.
7. We make large components. Be aware of moving fork trucks, overhead cranes, etc. It is the operator’s job to watch out for you, but it is always advisable to be aware of your surroundings and stay out of the way.
8. If you happen to get any chips in the soles of your shoes, DO NOT use your fingers to remove them! Use a pen, nail file, etc., but not your fingers.
9. When you are in a welding area, DO NOT stare at the weld arcs.
